Michael T. Farrell, M.D.

Hello!

My name is Michael Farrell. I am one of thirteen board certified gastroenterologists in the group Gastrointestinal Specialists, Inc. in Richmond, Virginia.

One of the therapeutic functions of a physician is to help his patients understand their conditions and options for treatment. I hope this site will be a useful tool towards that end. The links I have chosen have a focus towards gastroenterolgy and digestive health although they can also be a portal to useful health information on a variety of other topics. You may want to bookmark the link section of this site to easily have reliable medical information available for you and your family whenever you need it.

For specific information regarding appointments with me or any of my partners please see our practice website at http://www.gastrova.com

Also for specific information regarding our Endoscopy centers, where we do the majority of our outpatient procedures, please peruse the Virginia Endoscopy Group (VEG) web site.

At the VEG we perform a variety of procedures including colonoscopy, colonoscopy with polypectomy, upper endoscopy, esophageal dilation among others. We are committed to aggressive colon cancer screening and to that end we have developed the most cost effective, busiest endoscopy center in Richmond. The procedures will be performed by the gastroenterologist with sedation under the direction of an on site anesthesiologist. Propofol sedation is available for maximum comfort although conscious sedation with medications such as Versed, Demerol or Fentanyl can be used in selective cases. We can also accommodate the rare patient who requests no sedation at all.

Thanks again for visiting,

Michael T. Farrell, M.D.
